UFC270: Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gané

The UFC starts 2022 with a resounding card to warm up the engines, with two very interesting belt disputes in Anaheim, California , next Saturday (22).

In the main event, a clash of two former training partners – and two of the most talented heavyweights of our time – between Francis Ngannou and Cyril Gané . The Cameroonian won the title by defeating Stipe Miocic, and is looking to defend it against Gané, a technical and lethal striker who captained the renewal of the 120kg category.

In the  co-main event , Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo close the trilogy for the flyweight belt, taken by the Mexican who submitted the Brazilian with a rear naked choke last year.

Heavyweight Championship: (CAM) Francis Ngannou (C) vs. (Int) Ciryl Gané (FRA)

Francis NgannouFrancis Ngannou (16-3 in MMA, 11-2 in the UFC) made his way through the UFC by piling up unconscious bodies over a 7 year gap. The first of them was the Brazilian Leandro KLB, back in 2015, and from then on the pleasure of finishing the fights before the last horn was extended with victories over Curtis Blaydes, Bojan Mihajlović, Anthony Hamilton, Andrei Arlovski and the attempted murder against Alistair. Overeem. Then came the first attempt to fight for the title, and the Cameroonian received a wrestling and dominance clinic with the signature of Stipe Miocic. Soon after, he was defeated in a face-off against Derrick Lewis.

The path was rebuilt at the base of the punch to the head. Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, Junior Cigano and Jairzinho Rozenstruik had the circuit breaker turned off by Francis and a new chance was offered against Miocic for the use of the most coveted belt in the world.

In the reunion, Ngannou showed evolution, managed to defend the takedown attempts and managed to impose his game to knock out the champion in the second round. Another amazing knockout and the crowning of the trajectory of an African immigrant who came to live on the streets.

The current champion's style is remarkable. Big, strong, athletic, the Cameroonian is a knockout puncher who seems to have the touch of death – anyone who's unwary his hand touches simply won't stand up. Francis has boxing with good movement and speed, good combinations, which despite being simple, manage to generate stunning power and an uppercut that is probably the strongest in the UFC squad. The takedown defense has improved, but the Cameroonian's game still lacks technical polish.

Ciryl Gané (10-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC), was a training partner of Ngannou and just like him appeared as an excellent prospect of a category that has difficulties of renewal. Big, strong, strong, athletic, smart and disciplined, the Frenchman has all the tools to succeed in MMA. Unlike the champion, Gané's style is based on constant movement, technical combinations, distance control and a strategic control of the fight. Ciryl also uses kicks, knees and has a good understanding of all aspects of MMA skills. The defects are in defensive gaps that occur mainly with the guard neglected, and in the exit of the short distance.

Gané's trajectory in the UFC so far is perfect. There were seven convincing victories, including names like Junior Cigano, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov and Derrick Lewis. Even the latter was worth the interim belt of the category and the Frenchman showed all his superiority to win without major problems. Curiously, among the opponents, the ones who presented the least difficulties were the most technical and strategic, but the fight against Jairzinho was a little more tense.
